The artist

Dave Tattum has been a singer in local bands in North Wales, playing in Wales and the North of England since he was 17. He moved to London and fronted various rock and metal bands before becoming the lead singer in Angel Witch, recording 2 albums and touring with the band over a period of 5 years. After that, he moved back to North Wales and continued playing locally as a solo performer and eventually back to fronting rock and blues & rock bands. In 2016, whilst still heading a local rock blues band, he joined a Welsh male voice choir, which travel to Europe to perform and compete.

“Dave Tattum & The Rattlesnake Bones”

October 2019

The story

It is a chance meeting in Belgium between a Welsh heavy metal singer and a Flemish musician some 35 years ago that has led to this unique album. On his way to Greece, Dave Tattum halted in Belgium – in Leuven to be precise – and has kept coming back ever since. From discussing over a Stella about writing songs together, Dave and Dirk Lekenne ended up exchanging lyrics and compositions. In April 2019, Dave came over to record a full album in Studio Fandango.

The album

The inspiration for this album has come from Dave’s life, and especially from some people who have been a major influence. “Belgian Baby” underlines Dave’s love for Belgium: if it hadn’t been for strong ties in the UK, he would probably never have left the country! “Sisters of the Sacred Heart” relates to his experience as a child in a home for unmarried mothers. “The Café on the Corner of the Street” is a song about his first - not his greatest - love. And “The Price of Coal” is Dave’s tribute to Hugh, his father in law, a WWII survivor and above all: a fellow coal miner with an unforgettable personality. It was a co-miner by the name of Oliver Luke who told Dave to get out of the pit if he wanted to be a singer, as the mines turn young boys into old men.
